“Wherefore take unto you the whole armour of God, that ye may be able to withstand in the evil day, and having done all, to stand.” Ephesians 6:13 (KJV)
The Outcome Given First
When framing the armour of God, Paul gives us the outcome before the instruction.
Before naming a single piece of equipment, he tells us what wearing it will produce - the ability to withstand in the evil day, and having done all, to stand.
This is assurance.
We’re not putting on armour and hoping for the best. We’re putting on armour with the knowledge that God has already named the result.
The equipping He provides is sufficient for the warfare we will face.
The outcome is not in question, but whether we will take up what He has offered is.
What We Are Standing With
As this series closes, the question is not whether we are standing, but what we are standing with.
The world offers its own tools for resilience: willpower, affirmation, self-development, curated routines, the accumulated wisdom of human experience.
These are not without value, but they are corruptible.
They are dependent on circumstances remaining stable enough to support them.
In truth, when the ground shifts, they shift with it.
God’s provision is different.
Jehovah Jireh - the Lord who provides - is not a title limited to the top of mind physical and material care.
His provision extends to the spiritual equipping that makes it possible to stand strong in the spirit even when the flesh is struggling.
The belt of truth steadies us when confusion presses in.
The breastplate of righteousness guards what governs us.
The shoes of peace keep us upright when the terrain shifts.
The shield of faith holds when the darts are relentless.
The helmet of salvation anchors identity when everything else is being questioned.
The sword of the Spirit is precise when we need it most.
Prayer keeps us connected to the One who provides it all.
A stance sustained by worldly understanding requires rebuilding from the ground up each time a new season arrives.
But a stance built on God’s provision carries forward. It accumulates and deepens.
What was hard to hold in one season becomes more natural in the next; not because life gets easier, but because the woman wearing the armour has grown within it.
Consistency, Not Intensity
The armour of God is not crisis equipment. It is daily formation.
Paul does not say put it on when things get difficult. He says take it up, implying the ongoing, habitual, intentional donning of what God has provided.
The belt is not tightened only when truth feels under threat. The shield is not raised only when the darts are visible.
The posture Paul describes is one of continuous readiness, maintained not through spiritual intensity but through consistent return.
This is what formation actually looks like. Not the dramatic moments of faith, though those come.
The ordinary days of choosing truth over distortion, righteousness over exposure, peace over reactivity, faith over fear, salvation’s assurance over the voice of accusation, the word over cultural noise, and prayer over isolation.
Each of those daily choices is the armour being worn.
That’s what standing looks like in ordinary days of life.
A Foundation, Not a Ceiling
Foundations matter. Before becoming, before loving, before building or navigating culture, we must first be grounded.
But a foundation is not where we stay. It is what we stand on in order to go further.
The armour of God is a framework to check, challenge, and correct ourselves. A structure to return to, to grow within, to wear with increasing familiarity across the seasons and stages of womanhood.
It’s not the whole of the formation journey.
There is more. There will always be more.
The Christian life is not a destination arrived at but an ongoing formation that deepens with every season of obedience, every piece of armour worn with intention, every return to the God who provided it.
Stand
Having done all, having taken up the truth, the righteousness, the peace, the faith, the salvation, the word, the prayer - stand.
Not because everything is resolved and the warfare has ceased.
Because the God who told us to stand has also provided everything required to do it.
